Brisa, CCR partner for Portugal's ANA airport sell-off
Portugal's main motorway operator Brisa and Brazilian counterpart CCR have agreed in principle to jointly study the possibility of buying airport management firm ANA, which is being privatised by the Portuguese state, Brisa said.
The privatisation is scheduled to take place this year under the terms of an EU/IMF bailout for Portugal. The country has already successfully sold major stakes in two power sector companies, EDP and REN to foreign investors.
"ANA is a strategic element for Brisa's business diversification," Guilherme Magalhaes, Brisa business development director, told reporters on Monday. "Brisa and CCR will lead a consortium for ANA privatisation," he said.
In a statement, Brisa said a memorandum of understanding signed with CCR calls for the two companies to "evaluate and possibly carry out the acquisition opportunity under the privatisation process announced by the Portuguese government".
Brisa had already been part of a consortium seeking to take part in the ANA sell-off. But that group, which also involved builder Mota Engil and several banks, was disbanded after the government suspended plans to build a new international airport near Lisbon.

Spain national inflation ticks lower in July
Spanish consumer inflation fell to its lowest since December in July, hit by weak domestic demand and the fading of impact from a value-added tax hike a year earlier.
High energy prices still drove national consumer prices 3.1 percent up year-on-year, in line with the flash reading and analysts' forecasts, but that was down from 3.2 percent a month earlier, National Statistics Institute data showed.
Consumer prices rose 3.0 percent year-on-year in July on an EU-harmonised basis, equal to that recorded in June.
"We're now in a comparable period after the VAT hike, so this effect has been taken out and is a reason we can expect lower inflation over the next few months," economist at M&G Valores Nicolas Lopez said.
Spain's Socialists increased VAT to 18 percent from 16 percent in July last year as part of saving measures to assure nervous investors it had control of the national finances.
Despite an economy struggling with low growth, high unemployment and budget cutbacks, Spanish consumer prices have tended to be more volatile and above the euro zone average due to high imports of energy such as crude and natural gas.
The euro zone is expected to report inflation of 2.5 percent year on year in July on Aug 17.
Core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, was 1.6 percent, down from 1.7 percent in June.
"The core inflation was a surprise for us as we were expecting a increase due to higher tobacco prices. That factor has been offset by drop in clothing and footwear prices, which could be a sign of weak consumer spending," economist at Cortal Consors Estefania Ponte said.

Spain passes job reforms aimed at overcoming high unemployment, big deficit
Spain gave final approval Thursday to labor market reforms designed to shake up a listless economy and help slash a bloated deficit that has prompted European-wide worries of another Greek-style debt crisis.
But it was hardly a day for the government to cry victory, as most parties voted against the changes and lambasted Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, whose approval rating has sunk to under 30 percent.
Union leaders, who are generally close allies of the Socialist government, said a general strike planned for Sept. 29 is now more justified than ever.

The Politics of Andorra take place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic country, whereby the Head of Government of Andorra is the chief executive, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. Before 1993, Andorra's political system had no clear division of powers into executive, legislative, and judicial branches. A constitution was ratified and approved in 1993 which establishes Andorra as a sovereign parliamentary democracy that retains as its heads of state a co-principality (or duumvirate), but the head of government retains executive power. The two co-princes serve coequally with limited powers that do not include a veto over government acts. They are represented in Andorra by a delegate.
